Adult volunteers will watch a virtual training on piloting a helium balloon prior to the parade.

At the balloon lot, pilots will work with their team to practice raising, lowering, tilting and spinning their balloons.

During the parade, pilots will be at the front and back of the balloon to guide the team. Attention is paid to:

It is uncertain whether this will be a helium balloon or a carry balloon. Please watch the piloting video and plan to support your team either way.

This balloon will either be a helium balloon with ropes or a cold air balloon to be carried. We'll update volunteers once we know, but please note that anyone on this balloon should be prepared either way and have excellent upper body strength.

Volunteers should be ready to work as a team and exude excitement and fun for parade watchers. 

Ages 14+Responsible for anchoring balloons in staging lot and receiving balloon training instructions. Physical ability to manage the one mile parade route with a one mile parade return route. Proper footwear is required. Gloves will be needed to grip the pole.Do not bring items to carry with you as there is no place to store them at the volunteer lot. 

Wear an inflatable costume in the parade!

You'll step into an inflatable costume and wear it throughout the parade. This role requires someone steady on their feet who enjoys interacting with the crowd. 

Requirements:

Volunteers 5'6" to 6' tall are preferred.
This role is not for someone uncomfortable in enclosed spaces as the costume covers you from head to ankle. You will need to wear a long sleeve shirt and long pants. The costume can get very warm, so consider if this should be a light layer.Ages 16+ only

Create a dynamic balloon display with backpack balloon sprays!

Volunteers in this role should excude excitement and fun as the display depends on you bringing energy to the role! You will be expected to smile, wave and energetically interact with the crowd. Volunteers are required to coordinate their movement and location with the rest of the backpack balloon team as this display should always be aligned as a unit. 

Backpacks are made entirely of balloons and are lightweight, making this an excellent role for intergenerational families, neighbors or religious groups, corporate groups or other teams of volunteers. You even get to keep the backpacks at the end! Sign up to reserve your volunteer spots today!

Please note that if there is a shortage of volunteers in another role with similar requirements, volunteers on our Spray Pole Balloons may be moved to fill that role. Your flexibility is appreciated!

Safety Marshals must be 18+ and help to ensure the safety of parade participants and attendees along the parade route by:

Monitoring for safety along the parade routeActively help to keep kids and parade goers off the parade route (out of the street)- using rope and/or sidewalk chalk to draw safety boundaries Direct crowds as neededMonitor for gaps and spacing between parade participant vehicles and floats

Safety Marshal Requirements:

The parade must go on!

When volunteers registered for specific parade roles, such as banner carriers, balloon handlers or inflatable costume characters are unable to make it to the parade for their shift, a parade unit is left short. That's where you come in!

Our parade floaters step in where needed when a unit is missing a volunteer. Floaters should be extremely flexible and able to take on any role in the parade with short notice. When you arrive, you will check-in at the volunteer table and wait to see if a role becomes open. In the unlikely event no role is open, you are welcome to march alongside one of our balloon units or will be released to view the parade on your own. 

Ages 16+ - No ExceptionsVolunteers in this role should not expect to be placed with friends or family volunteering at the parade. We will assign you where the need is highest.Wear proper footwear.Must be comfortable walking the one-mile parade route.
